Auburn was taking a plane to Houston to play the Cougars on Saturday.
The Auburn men’s basketball team’s flight was forced to turn around shortly after takeoff on Friday night due to a disagreement amongst the players, according to several reports. The plane was headed to Houston, where the No. 11 Tigers will play the No. 4 Houston Rockets on Saturday.
Air traffic control was informed by the plane’s pilot that “we have a bunch of basketball players fighting” by WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama. Additionally, according to reports, “we had 2 players that got into a physical altercation, clothes were ripped.” mentioned the pilot.
According to reports, the situation got so bad that flight staff chose to ground the aircraft and turn it around.
Since then, Auburn has boarded another airplane to Houston.
One of the most anticipated nonconference games of the college basketball season is the Tigers vs. Cougars game.
Under the leadership of national player of the year candidate Johni Broome, Auburn (1-0) enters the match with one of its strongest squads in program history.
With four starters returning from a 32-5, Big 12-winning campaign, Houston (1-0) is the preseason favorite to win the national championship.
