As he is ready to make his Manchester United managerial debut, Rúben Amorim has expressed his happiness at being the “Smiling One”.
Erik ten Hag has been replaced as Old Trafford’s manager by the Portuguese. He succeeds Jose Mourinho, who led the team from 2016 to 2018, as the club’s second-ever Portuguese coach.
There are similarities with Amorim, who, like Mourinho in 2003, is a young coach who comes to the Premier League from Portugal. In a now-famous press conference, Mourinho proclaimed himself the “Special One” when he took over as Chelsea’s manager.
But Amorim used a different tack before Sunday’s Premier League matchup between United and Ipswich.
“I can be the Smiling One but when we have a job to do I will be a different person,” he stated.
However, a lot changes; we are now in a different building. I’ve changed, and I want to impart some knowledge to my players. We want to win, and the team is still large and the greatest in England.
